Need to make an image spin round
by Jack King on Nov 4, 2009 at 11:36:27 pm

HI folks,

just after some help.

Basically - i'm working on a music video shoot and I have some footage of a band members head. I want to make the image spin around 360 in a complete circular motion. I want to project this onto tape reels and play the image, if you get what i mean.

How can I achieve this in FCP? I don't have after effects or anything at the moment, this is just some basic pre-production.

Cheers guys! Jack :)

I'd use motion keyframe for this.

Select the image you want to animate, and then click the "Motion" tab. Underneath the scale slider, you'll see the rotation wheel. Set a keyframe at the start of the clip by clicking the diamond shape button to the right of the wheel. Move along to the end of the clip, set another keyframe and type in 360 into the number box next to the wheel.

This will give you (a very crude) 360 degree rotation. Probably OK for your requirements right now, but quite a crude movement with very simple tools inside FCP.
