Old Style Video Levels Boost on FCP

Hi All
Here is a one or mabey I am just blond ! In the old days we would boost BETA SP levels on the fly when editing. How would you do that in FCP - I know you cannot do it on the fly. I use 3 way color corrector for most of the correction ?

Yep. Blacks, Mids and Highlights, you adjust accordingly.

if by the old days you mean just tweaking the setup, gain and chroma pots on the player then the equivalent in FCP's effects would be the Proc Amp filter ( Effects > Video Effects > Image Control > Proc Amp ) ... but the 3 way will give you far more nuanced control

If you mean tweak the controls on the fly while the video plays, like the proc amp controls on a VTR, then you can't do that in FCP. You'll have apply the filter, make adjustments, then play. Then adjust, then play. So basically all adjustments happen on a still. But once adjusted they apply to the entire video even to the picture before the one you're parked on. Try doing that on a tape.

Thnx Guys that one really helped out - Shot Some surfing in Cape Town SA and it was a tad over cast - Had to use a long lens 70 optical to get the pictures so some shots were a bit grey. As you know shooting in surf is always a bummer. But your advice helped big time

Underexposure is easily processed using the scopes and any of several different filters. The important part of the flow is the objectivity of the scopes. Which filters you use is subjective.
