White Screen in Canvas when playhead stopped/single framing

I recently had some drop frame issues and changed a bunch of settings and cleaned out my Hard Drives in order to take stress off the system. The issue was resolved, in the end, by exporting the troubling After Effect files as new QT movies and then re-importing into a new timeline, basically re-compressing. System performance should not have been and likely was not the problem as I am editing on a quad processor Intel G5 w/ 30+ gigs of space on both the hard drive that houses the application and the hard drive that I store my clips on.
I tried to reset all setting back to high quality playback. Now whenever I stop the playhead or attempt to move through a sequence frame by frame (arrowkeys etc.) I have a white screen in the canvas. When I playback the sequence the video is there, the problem is only when stopped on a single frame. Not sure if I am missing an FCP setting or if I need to allocate more memory somehow to FCP?

OK, just saw the post about black screen and I figured out I somehow set view to Alpha, all is well. Maybe I have learned my lesson about searching the forums thoroughly before posting :)... although something about deadlines+FCP mysteries makes me act rashly!

I'm guilty of not searching too...but I am really glad that you did. Round of applause. Especially since the other issue was BLACK frames, and not white ones. But my answer covered both...to help the search.
