Final Cut 7 - Missing Plug-ins directory as well as vanishing plug ins
by Jordan Wise on Sep 13, 2009 at 6:08:32 am

I recently switched over to Final Cut 7 (which is great by the way) and just obtained quite a few new plug ins I was hoping to incorporate into my work flow. However, when I go to search for my plug ins directory to install them (/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins), it is no longer there.

As an alternative I've tried placing these plug-ins inside (/Library/Preferences/final cut pro user data/plugins) to no avail.

As I start to get suspicious, I load up FCP7 and check my effects tab and notice that a few key transitions I use have seemed to have vanish from my effects folder (flashframe, wind blur cross). They still work when I load a project that has them, but thats the only way to view them now. There presence in the effects tab is no longer there.

While looking around to try and resolve this issue, I installed the plug in manager from apple, but now I've noticed that some filters don't work as a result of that (specifically text assembler which worked prior to that installation and now all I get is a layer thats white with no text whatsoever)

I'm now finding myself scrambling for solutions in order to meet a deadline. I've tried scouring the web for a solution but have turned up empty.

If anyone at all can shed some light on my problem(s) it would be greatly appreciated.

Are these third party plugs or stock fcp?

Well flash frame, and wind cross blur I believe are stock.

But I'm not 100% sure if Text Assembler, which resides in '3D text projects' under 'Master Templates' is part of Boris continuum 5 or stock.

In an effort to solve the problem I actually re-installed my copy of BCC5, just to see if it was the problem, but it hasn't changed a thing.

I should also note that I have been using FCP7 for a week and a half before any of these problems showed up. Just opened it one day and had to deal with these issues all at once.

Quit FCP and trash your prefs. Reopen your prject and make sure to check the option under:

Effects > Effect Availablity > All Effects

Here's a picture for reference:

Did a system restore which resolved the conflict with the white screen caused by the plug in manager, so the text assembler effect is now restored. However, the issue with the flashframe and wind cross blur still remains. I took your advice and changed the effect availability to 'all effects'. Unfortunately, it didnt resolve the issue.

This is just too weird. Is there a way to save transitions off the timeline back into the effects tab? That's the only thing I can think of to restore these transitions.
