OT: Alternative to Photoshop

	OT: Alternative to Photoshop by Winston A. Cely on Sep 3, 2009 at 1:57:26 pm This is a bit off topic, but I was wondering if anyone here uses an alternative to Photoshop in conjunction with their Final Cut work? I got CS3 when a got my system because it was the standard external still images editor when talking about editing with FCP. Typically, I use it for cutting product shot up for use in Motion, creating reflections, or "cleaning" an image up with the stamp and band aid tools. And of course using simple filters like NTSC colors, and blurs when needed. I was thinking of looking into getting something like Pixelmator, but I was wondering if anyone here has used something other than Photoshop for their FCP editing needs. Winston A. The closest is Cinepaint, which is sometimes a bit wonky, but has a nice flip book feature and works with EXR and DPX; the next is Gimp, which is limited to 8 bit color. I totally agree that when it comes to true photo retouching, and most of the higher end functions, nothing compares to Photoshop. For me personally, I feel as though I'm paying for a lot of things I'll never use as a video editor. I'm NOT saying I want something for free. I totally expect to pay for my applications, even the one's that are "free" I at least try to donate something even if it's only a few bucks. It's just that Photoshop, I only use an extremely small amount of what that application is capable of, and I wanted to see if anyone else, as an editor, felt that way too and used another application to achieve what they needed. 	Re: OT: Alternative to Photoshop by Neil Sadwelkar on Sep 4, 2009 at 3:06:57 pm I have simple picture manipulation needs within FCP. For what I need to do, I figured Photoshop was a bit of overkill. I tried Gimp and Cinepaint, but both were a bit clunky. I went out and bought Pixelmator at a promo for $ 30 or something like that. It is great and does all I need to do. I also use Keynote and Pages to create graphics from various image sources. Honest! Both Keynote and Pages have a fantastic keyer to get rid of coloured backgrounds, and can make great text, shapes, shadows. Even a bit of CC on images. Also explore Motion to do image manipulation.
