Hi all I hope someone can advise on this. I am about to start a P2 HD job probably shooting at 1080 25p but we are trying to decide what drives to use for the edit. We would like to ingest the media at a high resolution so as to avoid recapturing the media at the end of the offline edit. But we don't have a raid array and would ideally like to start with FW800 drives as the job will start on an imac for a rough assembly edit and then move to a mac pro.
I could fit internal sata drives into the 3 spare ports on the mac pro and stripe them together. But I'm not convinced a 3 way sata stripe will be fast enough.
Also could someone please advise on the best resolution to bring the media in at. The systems will probably be running FCS3.

I think you're making some poor decisions up front without knowing why or what the unintended consequences might be. However, after you've been working on your project for a few months, please come back and tell us what you've learned and if the advice you received was of any value.

The choices aren't mine to make unfortunately, the director gets to choose what format to shoot with not me. I suspect I will import the footage initially at dvcpro-hd res onto a g-raid3 connected to the imac.
And then re-import the footage at prores 422HQ on the mac-pro (hopefully with a g-speed fc or similar connected. If anyone has tried deleting and re-capturing p2-hd media at a higher res and has any advice I would like to hear it..
