Good e-sata raids dropped multicam footage
by Don Walker on Sep 2, 2009 at 4:28:40 pm

Octocore, FS3 8gb of ram, 2 Lacie big 4 Quadra raided together in a raid 50 config. I have 5 streams of DV footage multi clipped together, and I still get dropped frames on playback. The AJA disk whack test shows 31 streams of playback possible. I only have 100GB of a possible 5.5TB left on the drive, could this be the problem? If so, would just removing old footage solve it, or would I need to defrag in some way.
Thanks
Don Walker

That is undoubtedly the problem.

Remove 20% of the media on the raid and you will see a vast improvement right off the bat.
