Final Cut Pro 7 + Mac Caption+Kona
by Kevin Baxter on Aug 31, 2009 at 3:33:13 pm

I am looking into closed captioning about 5 TV shows for the next quarter. Currently spending about 300 bucks an episode right now. I have worked with the Caption Maker software before. I am pretty friendly with it. My question is , what Am I going to need to Master shows with Caption Maker, in HD through the new FCP 7. I have talked to the people at Caption Maker. Basically to do it with decklink is a huge run around, and the captions wouldn't be embeded on Line 21, which The Outdoor Channel requires.

What kind of process am I looking forward to? Most of mile file format i work with is in the XD cam format. We usually master out in Pro Res in 1920 x 1080. Is this going to be a problem. Anyone who has used to MacCaption to HD please help me out here. Any bugs or quirks I should look at. I dont want to spend 8 grand and have something give me head aches.

I have the same challenge ahead. We are considering the DVCPROHD deck with CC through firewire. Our shows are shot on P2. I will be interested to see if you get any responses.

you should take a look at the matrox MXO2 series which handles CC data both coming in and out.
