RT Playback issue

I have a 3-4 year old Mac Powerbook - Processor 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; Memory - 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM; with 37 GB of hardrive space currently available. My footage is on a CalDigit Raid Array...
I have been logging and transferring footage from my Ex3 for weeks now (I have about 11 reels so far - HD 1040) - and have just started editing to sequences this past week.
And suddenly: I am getting RT Playback error messages, dropped frames...and my work is at a standstill. I have tried restarting, opening brand new projects - and the playback is still chugging.
The error messages suggest the problem is due to slow discs, and that my processing power is exceeded. They also suggest resetting my "unlimited RT". Any thoughts? Do I need a new computer or can I get by with some setting changes for a little while longer?

If you only have 37Gb of hard drive space left on your CalDigit array then you are almost certainly over the proper capacity of the raid. You should always have at least 20 percent free space, if not more to get the proper performance from raids or single drives.

Sorry not to have been clearer -- I have 37 GBs available on my powerbook -- and 110 GBs available on my CALDigit (where all my footage is stored)....shouldn't that be enough? or am I still pushing it?

Tracy, without knowing the full capacity of both I am unable to help, as the answer is determined by calculating the ratio of free space to overall capacity.

Thanks, David. That was exactly the problem. I have about 700 GB on my CalDigit and had just gone over the 20% free limit (at about 115 GBs free) - so we've moved whatever we can off to free up an additional 40 GBs and video plays back perfectly.
This, of course, is not a long-term solution (I'll need to find more space soon)...but for now, I can work!
