does anybody know how you get audio automation from FCP to logic pro 8...I know it works in soundtrack but have had such headaches with that app that I gave up...have a pretty large project and the idea of redoing all the audio levels from scratch is a bit daunting....or do I just pay digidesign their blood$$$$ and get the DVtoolkit

How were you planning to get the project into either Logic or ProTools? OMF won't transfer dynamic levels, just clip levels.
Automatic Duck can export a lot more of the FCP automation into ProTools. But if you are already baulking at upgrading your ProTools, you won't like the cost of Automatic Duck on top of that.

sorry to be more specific I'm talking about the volume automation data, I'm doing the post mix/ master...when you say dynamic levels and clip levels what exactly do you mean?...have come across some info about automatic duck...will look more into it..and not exactly baulking its just that with digidesign you pay for things that a lot of other apps have already in there..am willing to buy whateva will do this for me. I was hoping to export as OMF & yes know about the 2gb limit & should be O.K...so is there a way to get audio level automation data from FCP into Logic...or is pro tools the way...is auto duck essential, will it give me this ability, or should i get ready to redo all the audio levels ....BTW thanx 4 the time & reply, getting headaches on this one...

FCP, like many edit systems has two ways to adjust level. Firstly by setting clip gain and secondly by dynamic channel levels which is done with keyframe automation. OMF can't export the channel gain automation but can export specific clip gain info.
Automatic Duck software will transfer channel gain automation into ProTools plus a whole lot of other translation like panning and some clip FX like EQ.
I use FCP for online/ grade work and always transfer the audio into a Fairlight Xynergi using OMF. Frankly I don't want editors channel automation or clip levels. Mixing audio for broadcast requires a whole lot of dynamics processing, bussing and stem mixing and so the audio is split out over a whole lot of different channels and so channel gain info rapidly becomes useless. FCP is certainly not a finishing tool for audio and I am not convinced STP is yet up to the task.
