General Error
by Richard Rodriguez on Aug 7, 2009 at 5:15:15 pm

Hello all,

I keep getting a General Error during a Quicktime export. I have tried the export self-contained and not self-contained. The sequence setting are XDCAM 1080I60, Square, Upper.

I need to get it out of FCP to convert to Flash and DVD.

Any possible help would be great appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Richard Rodriguez

It could be a bad render. You can try deleting the renders with Render Manager and re-render. Then see if you can export. If that doesn't work, it's possible you've got corrupt media. To narrow down where in the sequence the problem may be, try exporting smaller segments. If one doesn't work, then look to that segment as having bad media.

Just ran into this myself. For me, the problem ended up being the external hard drive I was using (both the source files and destination directory were on it). Moving both the source and destination to my local HD fixed it for me. Not to say that there might not be many other causes of "General Error" (nice error message).

Thank you.

I will make sure to separate in the future.

Make sure you never use your system drive as your scratch drive. Another possible reason for the error might be corrupt drive directories. Run Disk Warrior on your system and external disks. IMHO, Disk Warrior is the most important utility to have if you use a Mac.
