possible downconvert out sync issue
by Joe Procopio on Jul 31, 2009 at 3:41:58 pm

project DVCPro HD 29.97
downconvert to SD 29.97 through Kona 3

client claims 5 frame offset...in audio session. I'm getting everything up to look at the project, then the master tape...don't know how it went to sound, but anyone have ay issues with downconverting through the Kona?

Mac 8core 3ishGhz, 2008 Mac Pro, FCP 6.0.x...no issues with other projects, but we don't downconvert anything through the Kona...usually output to HD, then downconvert through deck out...

thanks for any ideas.

so i'm thinking it is indeed a kona thing...i brought up the project and listened back through the digibeta and got the same result...but listening and monitoring the FCP, was correct.

How did you connect the audio? For digiBeta, you should be able to use embedded audio in the SDI. That should maintain sync with the video signal, no problem.

everything was SDI...i was monitoring off the Digibeta record deck and listening to the deck through our Yamaha O3D mixer...composite out of the Digi, and analog audio out to the mixer.

i'm going to to a simple pop test today to see where it may be out of sync. it very well could have been the footage.

so after my pop test, everything looks to be correct, just as I suspected. We are getting the client's drive and we'll see if anything appears.
the project was DVCPro 1080i 29.97, and the drive is a firewire 800 Maxtor drive. I suggested the media be moved to our local SAN, but it was not. I will move some media over and see if that corrects the issue. I'm also going to check the original source media for any softness. The media was given to us on a drive, we did not ingest any of it. maybe we can blame it on the other house....(NBC in NYC)
