Hi,

My director is currently interested in shooting in 3D and has asked me to look into editing 3D footage in FCP. Can anyone recommend a workflow or a website that can guide me through it?

Thank you,

Ben.

Stereoscopic 3D? FCP does not have this functionality yet. This "other" editing tool does, though.

Your director is putting the cart in front of the barn where the horse is still asleep.
3D is a b-i-g word.
Most 3D productions are configured based upon their release medium, not the editing platform. Theatrical or home viewing? Polarized projection, shutter glasses, inter-field rasterization, immersion...

Tell your director to move along further in his proposal and then you can talk about editing.

The only way I know of to edit 3D in FCP is this:

I've used FCP to edit in 3D, it's not that easy. What we've done is to set up 2 monitors and stereo projectors with a Matrox Dual Head 2 Go to create side by side edits. the edits are then sent to Motion or AE for final compositing.

We're planning on trying out the 2 new plugins from Cineform and Noise Industries to see if they improve our workflow.

If you're in NY, you can swing by our shop and see how we do it. Email me off list at arniepix @ arniepix (dot) com.

Hi Arnie...just curious if you've gone with Neo3d and how you find it? how about outputting to the Panasonic monitors, or authoring 3d blu-ray?

I think what your looking for is called Stereo3D Toolbox. It's the only one I know of that can do pretty much everything you would ever need to do in 3D.
