FCP crashes using Motion files

Hi
85-min doc mostly shot by amateur camera person, wobbly, not steady, hand held...so 75% of the shots I brought to MOTION to stabilize, then brought those into FCP timeline...only 1/3 of the way through this process and FCP crashes every 5 minutes, then takes at least 5 minutes to open up again (relaunch), my 85 min timeline now won't render, says it's out of memory (using MAC PRO 3.0 with 8GB RAM)...crashes, some MOTION files turn orange in the canvas, then beach ball , then FCP crashes...what to do?

So you didn't render them out of Motion first? And were you sending in entire captured clips or just the edited, self contained clips?
I would have edited the entire thing, then exported the clips I wanted to smooth out, and run SmoothCam on those in FCP. Much easier.

Ah, didn't know I should render out of Motion...does that make them QT files, then just bring those into FCP?
Actually Smooth cam did a terrible (and very lengthy) job on the tests I ran, MOTION did much better re: smoothing out the wobbles...I simply right click on the clip in the FCP timeline, send to MOTION, it opens just that clip with its proper length then I save and it appears in FCP timeline...but maybe I should make them movs first, yes?
