Could anybody give me a few pointers in the right direction to make something along the lines of this?
You dont need to go into detail, but any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks lot for any help!
Good Day

Paint your actors face green and key it out, it will leave the eyes and mouth.

Think of Compositing and masks vs superimposing.

There are 3 levers Background with thumb, eyes and then mouth. Looks like the eyes and mouth are masked out with feathered edges.
I would put to black dots on the thumb to track the position of the eyes and mouth.

AAAH! MY EYES!!!
That's a pretty simple effect - use the 4-point garbage matte to mask around the mouth, use two more layers for each eye.
Place on top of a still photo of a thumb.
Eww.

I have nothing helpful to say, but oh gawd that is freaky. And oddly appealing.

You should do this in Motion, AE or something similar.
1. Crop or mask out the mouth and eyes from your source image.
2. Position facial features at correct position.
3.Track the source image to the thumb.
4. Color correct source image to match the finger.
5. Done...
Stephan
[edit] Actually never mind the tracking, Bill is right, use a still image....

Thats some serious plastic surgery or great fun with either After Effects, Motion.

I totally agree. This is DEFINITELY out of FCP's league. FCP's an editing application, for Heaven's sake. This requires animated masks, motion tracking... the works.

Absolutely doesn't.
1. Shoot the subject ensuring that he is as still as possible.
2. Composite the eyes, mouth, and a still of the thumb, as above. Four layers.
3. Nest those four layers, then animate the whole body as needed.
It's not elegant, but neither is the effect.

Yeah, well, then YOU try doing it.
Write in once you get sick of animating that mask around the mouth, almost on a frame-by-frame basis.
