Video Loses Sync On Export

Hello
I am putting together a little video for a client. When we went to export it we found that the audio and video had lost sync. It is a 3 minute video, and by the end the video was about 4 seconds ahead of where it should be.
Some of the footage was shot on a consumer camera of sorts and I believe is an avi file. I wouldn't think that would have something to do with it... but it might be suspicious.
Has anyone out there experienced anything of this sort? If you have any thoughts on this problem, I would love to hear your solution!
Thank you very much in advance for any help you can offer.
John

More or less.
The audio is mostly one aif file, with a few other bits put in over it.
However the audio is not problematic. When I compare the final timeline to the export, the audio is in the exact same spot. It is the video that is moving at a slightly faster rate.
