AVCHD into FCP 5, non-intel
by Erik Powell on Jun 11, 2009 at 7:11:42 pm

working with:

PowerPC G5
FCP 5.1.4
OS X 10.4.11

I'm used to working with Panasonic's p2 cameras, but this time around we could only get a AG-HMC150 which records onto SDHC in AVCHD format, which I am very unfamiliar with.

FCP 5 does not have the log and transfer option, and when I import into iMovie I only seem to get thumbnails of the footage.

I have read that non intel macs don't do AVCHD period. Is that true?

Any ideas on how I can access this footage in an editable format? When I mount the camera onto my comp, I get a folder called PRIVATE which contains two folders: AVCHD and JVC, which each contain their own folders and file types I've never heard of.

Via FCP...this is true. But if you look at third party options like Toast 10 or Voltaic, you can use those to convert the footage into something like AIC or DVCPRO HD. ProRes is not an option, as you don't have FCP 6.
