Multiple FW Devices on iMac FCS Setup
by William Carr on Jun 2, 2009 at 2:18:31 am

We now have an additional small edit system using a new iMac. Most of the time only one firewire device is needed, a G-Raid2 for editing. All media is transferred with our main system so this station needs not capture or transfer.

For some situations we need two drives attached, so to avoid daisy-chaining from the G-Raid will a hub-repeater like one of those below make any difference whatsoever to the iMac system's performance?

Using a hub or repeater won't increase the performance of your firewire drives. You're still sharing a connection and a single FW bus no matter how you do it.

What is the difference between these repeater-hubs and a regular multi-port hub? The Nitro unit specs say their repeater provides for "an elimination of daisy-chaining".
