Firewire to Composite Converters?

	Firewire to Composite Converters? by Nicholas Buer on May 18, 2009 at 3:06:18 pm Hi there, I'm looking for a cheap, reliable firewire to composite video converter. Within FCP I intend to use the firewire PAL video playback, convert this signal to composite video then to view this on a standard CRT television, to check field dominance etc. I need it all to be viewable in real time, and pass through the signal as I work. 	Re: Firewire to Composite Converters? by Dino Vince on May 18, 2009 at 3:12:18 pm not sure what you're using to capture, a camera or vtr, but these devices usually have a pass thru that you can take composite, and sometimes s-video and component out of and into a monitor. However, there are a number of SD I/O cards (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist.jsp&sku=28684...) that will offer better performance and not tie up your FW port for about the same price. 	Re: Firewire to Composite Converters? by Nicholas Buer on May 18, 2009 at 4:28:25 pm Thanks for your suggestions, but I am looking for a converter so I can use the external video option in FCP through firewire to composite to view on a TV. If I had the money I would by Mac pro, Blackmagic deckink card and a Grade 1 Broadcast Monitor, connect everything up with BNC's and use the Blackmagics 8 or 10bit external video option (within FCP) to view on the monitor as I edit. But alas, it is a smaller, much more stop-gap solution that I'm seeking. I have found this comparison page: http://www.synthetic-ap.com/tips/firewireconverters.html I wonder if any of these will do the trick of converting a firewire signal into composite for external video monitoring? I have two SD cameras (Canon XM2 and MV890) that I have tried to utilize them in this way but to know avail. Any specific models that you may know of that can achieve this? Check eBay, garage sales, etc. Or double check you know what you're doing with the cameras you have. I can't image the don't monitor FW to composite. Look for the EE function. (sorry for my ignorance ;) Will this unit act as a bypass unit, and be able to take the firewire video stream in one end and output it in real time in composite at the other? Basically, can this box be used as a real time firewire to composite converter? Or is it a stand alone converter box that can only take either an input, or output at one given time, and not do the whole pass through thing...? The ADS Pyro works great with Macs and FCP. My Mac friend has used mine several times. It is about the least expensive solution to get real-time previews on an NTSC or Pal monitor.
