Audio Sync Issue
by Jason Scherer on Apr 24, 2009 at 1:52:37 pm

I've searched and searched, can't find an answer to this one.

I've just finished a multi-clip edit on a project - only two clips, a master and secondary shot. Project format is HDV 1440x1080 30p. I collapsed the multiclip so I can do some color correction. When I play the sequence back, I only get audio from JUST left or JUST right (and it chooses randomly which one). After a few seconds, the other side starts, playing back much slower than the other side. It started doing this a few minutes after color correcting a few of the video clips.

The audio does not change with the video, I'm using the audio track from the master shot. The audio is Stereo A1&A2. I have dropped the audio settings in the System Settings section to mixing 4 tracks and Low quality - no effect. I have reconnected the media - no effect. I tried sending it to Soundtrack Pro and back - no effect. If I mute either the left or right channel, it plays back fine. Trying to play back as a regular stereo pair in the Sequence results in the slow down. And if I let it play for awhile, the sides will switch. I have used the Activity Monitor, and no undue stress is being put on the HDDs or CPU. Footage is capture to an internal Seagate 1TB 7200 SATA drive. If I open up the source clip in Quicktime Player or in Final Cut Pro, the source clip's audio plays back correctly. If I export from the sequence, the audio contains the slow downs and drop outs. I have turned off my computer for eight hours and let it cool down in case the HDD was overheated. No effect. Recapturing footage is not an option, and I don't think it would make any difference since the source clips in the Capture Scratch folder play correctly. The audio has all been captured at the same rate - 16-bit 48 KHZ, and the Sequence is set for that as well. Copying and pasting everything into a new Sequence also has no effect.

What the heck am I not thinking of?
