Hhaving book sis meaningless if you don't take the time to go through the material. Most people don't. It takes a solid 40 hours to slog through the entire tutorial regime in the Advanced Editing FCP 6 book. It's still viable in the latest version of FCP. In fact, effects workflow has not changed much since FCP 1. You can buy it here on the Cow Store.
