Dual Quad Core Processors and Final Cut Studio

I'm sat here watching the blue render bar creep along in FCP, again! and i've been wondering if all the processing power i have is being utilised by the various facets of Studio?
It's a dual 3gig quad core intel xeon, 8 gig of ram with Studio 2 installed, so it should eat through pretty much anything with relative ease.
Do i need to do something to enable multi processor capability?
Is there somewhere i can check if it is enabled?
Am i just being impatient and forgetting about the days when i sat waiting for 2 hours for my dual P3 editsuite to make a DVD?

FCP is not yet efficient at using 8 cores. To get a better idea of this open the cpu usage window in the Activity monitor utility. Fundementally, it's just too old a piece of software, and needs a major re-write, and a better OS to utilise the cores. Interestingly, Compressor is fantastic at some 8-core action, but was presumably a lot less work to re-write.
We're all hoping that FCS3, OSX10.6 and the new Grand Central code in it will speed things up. Who knows, you might see some progress on this in the next 3-4 months.
