Very Bizarre Exporting Issues with JPEG

I'm having a very unusual series of exporting issues. Here's some background on the project. I'm assembling a project from JPEGS that slide and fade ala Ken Burns for a client. I originally laid out the images before I received the narration. When I got the narration, I did a speed change on the images to make each image synch up with its accompanying narration. Everything seemed fine but when I finally previewed it on a TV, I had a few stutters on some of the more slowed-down clips. I tried to remedy this by putting the original-speed version of the photo in the timeline and pasting the motion and opacity from the slowed-down clip. Now, I'm getting (1) a weird double image or (2) color photos that are suddenly black and white. I tried removing frame blending from all the clips and that seemed to remedy the problem in final cut. However, upon exporting it to a quicktime, the problems come back! I tried uploading to youtube to show the problem but the double image disappears on youtube and the black and white photos just don't show up at all! I don't know enough about channels or anything like that to have any idea as to what's going on. I don't know what to do short of reconstructing my entire project and hoping for the best. I have this one picture from the time remap section of my project and I'm wondering if it has anything at all to do with my problem.

Hi Julian,
The thing is that I never heard before of applying speed changes to stills.
The stills have no speed.
I have no idea about how FC can manage that.
Cheers,
