FCP HD/xdcam capture: Sync/video stutter issues

We capture XDcam/HD through AJA and treat disk as a tape and not transfer files. (I can answer why at some other time)
We have noticed from time to time that we get clips that are out of sync, video stutters during any movement, or incomplete capture where audio continues with the clip but video goes blank.
We were told by our IT that it's a drive overload issue and we have to keep the drives 30% free in order to keep optimal performance.
Our systems are outfitted with 2.0 TB internal drives therefore we must keep 600 gigs of space free in order to efficiently operate?!
that seems a bit crazy.
I will admit, or IT has not been forthcoming with updates and I can't help but wonder that something may help this.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Your IT guys are correct.
Your best bet is to upgrade your storage or clean off some space for editing. Sounds to me that you have some data that would be better off on some external drives.
