Stereo Pairs for 5.1 audio in FCP timeline
by Warren Pereira on Nov 27, 2008 at 2:24:38 am

Hello all,

I have 5.1 audio laid in a FCP timeline as L,R,C,LFE, Ls, Rs. Should I make the L+R and Ls+Rs stereo pairs before I export the audio to Compressor for ac3 encoding or should I leave it as is (discrete mono channels, 6 of them). The sequence settings seems to make them stereo pairs for the downmix on 2-channel playback but I am not sure if they should be stereo pairs for 5.1 playback.

I hope I am being clear, and not confusing. Appreciate any help from any sound savvy people out there.

Thanks,

Warren

The Dolby encoding can take either mono or stereo files. It is probably easier to leave them discrete mono.
