Cannot capture clips
by David Crow on Nov 17, 2008 at 12:41:49 am

I am editing on a Mac OS X version 10.4.11, with a Sony HDR FX1, using FCP 6.0.1. I am using a USB 2.0 from the computer to the external hard drive. I am using HDV-1080i60 firewire basic setting, but I have attempted many other settings with no results.

I can log clips, but I cannot capture them, with either "clip," "now," or "batch." The capture screen comes up and then FCP freezes. Sometimes I can escape, but usually I have to shut off the computer.

The program was working fine, and this problem started suddenly. I have looked through the posts and found that this is not an uncommon problem, but I don't see anything specifically related to my equipment. I am new to this technology, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

[David Crow] " I am using a USB 2.0 from the computer to the external hard drive"
NEVER use a HD connected by USB. USB can cope with the data rate but in a no sustained way.
Cheers,
Rafael
