Problem importing XDCAM footage into final cut

Hello, and thanks in advance for looking and any help you can offer.
I'm having trouble importing footage shot on a Sony ex1 into Final Cut Pro. When I add the folder to XDCAM transfer, the clips are all there, but they say "no image available" on the individual clip, and "no media" on the preview window.
I have installed the sxs driver. I also have not changed the folder names at all, and I know that the footage is there, because I tested it on a friends system and it works.
I'm using Final Cut 6.0.4, and importing the footage using XDCAM transfer 2.1.0
The machine is a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 running OSX version 10.4.11
Anything else I can offer to give a better idea of what it might be, just ask.

I don't believe you need to use the XDCAM transfer software anymore. I'm about to start editing a season of a show for Sony Pictures shot on XDCAM and we just ran a cam test a few weeks ago. I could pull the clips generated from the camera directly into the timeline of FCP 6.0.4 with no issue. This is part of the 6.0.4 update... I hope someone else can back me up on this as I haven't started the show officially yet but this was how our camera test went...

We're using the Log and Transfer function here. There is a plug-in on the Sony Website that allows the Log and Transfer window to bring in the XDCAM footage instead of using Sony's own software tool.

Walter . . .are you using the EX1 or the XDCam cameras? When you transfer the footage, are you able to being it in Pro Res? We quit using the Sony XD Transfer because we end up editing in ProRes and it required too much render time. We also found that Kona3 doesnt play well with 1440 footage.

Kona3 does not play 1440x1080. The only settings in FCP Audio/Video Settings at 1080 is for 1920x1080. When we try to play 1440 footage through the Kona to our preview monitors we get nothing but colored snow.
We abandoned trying to edit native XDCAM footage because of this issue and digitize all footage to ProRes. How are you able to preview/play 1440 footage through Kona?

[Alan Smith]"How are you able to preview/play 1440 footage through Kona?"
By using the correct Easy Setup. 1440x1080 WILL play out at 1920x1080. 1440 is the anamorphic frame size. The Kona (or FCP) will stretch that out to 1920 during playback.
It's the same with DVCPro HD which is 720x960, 1280x1080 and 1440x1080 and HDV which is 1440x1080.

Walter, do you happen to have a link to that plugin from Sony? I've searched their site and can't find it for the life of me.
Also just to make sure we're on the same page. The footage that I'm trying to import is on a hard drive transferred from the SxS card, and not directly from the camera.

I've found no less than 4 support sites for Sony all of which claim to have software for the EX1. And, of course, they all have different software! The Cow has better support for Sony products!! This is the ONLY site that has the Log and Transfer plug in. Bookmark it NOW!

Hi,
I have the following problem:
When I import in FCP, and choose XDCAM, the XDCAM transfer window opens (I downloaded version 2.7.1 from the sony website). It shows the clips in the source folder, although it says 'no image available' for all of them. And I cannot import the clips, neither by pushing the import button (which is disabled) or by dragging.
What should I do? Thanks in advance for your insights.
