editing 6.04 files on 6.0

Does anyone know if it is possible to edit a file made on 6.04 using final cut 6.0? perhaps by exporting an EDL file?

FCP has never been backwards compatible. You have to export an XML file. This may not be reliable to earlier versions of the application.

All the best,

Sorry to ask it, but why not just upgrade?

I got final cut from a friend of mine and its not 100% Kosher so i haven't registered it. I guess i could probably find an 6.04 upgrade crack but i don't like stealing or using shady torrent sites anymore than is absolutely necessary.

You're already stealing by not purchasing the software and then using it.

Yeah that doesn't really bother me. I've already given apple a couple grand and put myself in debt to buy an overpriced macpro because Apple refuses to make their software cross platform compatible and has a monopoly on the film industry (outside avid which is even more expensive). I am a recent college grad and extremely underpaid Ass editor. Apple is giant multinational corporation with billions in revenue. So before you rain down shame and scorn upon me, know that i have already thoroughly rationalized the theft and i don't care. I think its pretty nice of me to try and avoid it if possible.

This ain't going to earn you any friends here... If you need help in the future I don't think people here will want to help someone with such a narrow view.

See, here's the beauty of the Cow. All posts are tracked and Apple reviews every single post in every Apple forum on the Cow. So they're aware of you right now and quite honestly, not many folks on here are going to help you going forward, least of all me. We all pay for our software because this is how we earn our living. People who steal the software and don't care really aren't all that welcome on a professional forum like this.

Well, I know a guy who can't afford to send his kids to college, so I thought that you might be willing to post your address so that his son can swing by and take your computer. Since theft is okay based on a sliding scale of "need," I thought that you might understand that this kid needs it worse than you and is truly justified using your math. After all, you got an education that he will never be able to afford.

Bye. You are outta here.

Rationalized theft?

Some giant multinational corporations have people that write computer code for a living, and much of their work helps others earn a living.

If you steal from the corporation, they won't be able to employ clever computer programmers, and our tools might cease to exist.

There is open source software for those that cannot or don't want to pay.
