HELP!! trouble outputting to DV tape

Hi everyone,
I am having a lot of frustration trying to figure this out. I have a DV NTSC sequence which contains a few short DV PAL clips. The majority of the footage is DV NTSC. The duration of the project is 55:46 and I am trying to output to a 60 min DV tape and when I print to tape it only outputs about 40 min before my tape runs out. I do not have out points marked on the timeline. The output continues to playback (from FCP) during recording, it's only the DV tape itself that runs out.
I have tried using different tapes. I am using a sony deck connected via firewire. The 40 min that it does output is just fine. I have even tried rendering in different formats then importing them back into FCP for print-to-tape but everytime it's the same.
I am completely baffled as to why it doesn't output the entire 56 min if DV Tape is supposed to record at least 60 min of footage.
any ideas??? I have to get this out ASAP so anyone please help me out.
oh, and I'm using Sony mini DV 60 min tapes (but I am almost 100% sure this is not where the problem is because I can capture a little over 60 min (SP) on these tapes with my camcorders)

You must be using a DVCam desk or Camcorder. In DVCam mode tapes run a 30% faster than in MiniDV.
So a 1 hour MiniDV tape takes only 40 minutes. Change to MiniDV instead of DVCam Rec mode.
