Capture from PAL-format Sony HVR-V1 (DVCam SD footage)

Hello, congrats to the person who can solve this. I have some DVCam standard definition footage shot in 50i on Sony's PAL-format HVR-V1 (in Bangladesh). Final Cut issued release notes that solved its ability to work with this camera's HDV footage: http://www.apple.com/support/releasenotes/en/Final_Cut_Pro_6.0_rn/ -
However, my footage is DVCam SD, and FCP is not capturing it. I have the capture preset on "DV PAL 48kHz Anamorphic" and the Device Control set to "Firewire PAL." Log and capture can "hear" the footage: the audio signal is coming in fine. It recognizes the timecode properly, and I can even scroll through normally. However, every time I do either a "capture now" or a "batch capture," the result is an error message: "This operation could not take place as there is no video." It is not reading the SD source. (Changing the capture preset to HDV doesn't work; nor any combo of ProRes or Intermediate codec).
I am running Final Cut Pro 6.0.4 on a PowerPC G5 running 10.4.11. I have Quicktime 7.5.5. Thanks for any ideas..
