My macbook pro (OS) with final cut studio has been working perfectly since I got it about two months ago. But today I went to capture some DV footage from my Canon XHA1 and it decided not to play ball - for no reason at all that I can see!!
It captures for about three seconds then comes up with a message that it is having problems reading the source data and it may be a problem with my source tape.
The settings all seem to be correct, I have tried different tapes, a different camera (Sony) and a different firewire but nothing seems to work. I have also tried capturing into i-movie and no luck there either.

Hi Jess,
If you can not record with iMovie is very likely a FW problem.
You can have a try with the QT recorder. If you are unable, check the FW again and the bus. Try connecting a FW drive.

capturing problems in DVCPRO PAL by Miguel Bustamante on Oct 10, 2008 at 8:27:18 am
Hey! I'm In china and I rented a Sony Z1 camera and filmed a lot of footage, now I seted up everything for it in my FCP, I can see everything in the Log and Capture setting but as soon as I start to capture it captures for like 4 seconds and stops saying that there was an error with the tape and that it stopt and saved my footage, but I have tried about 4 tapes now! and same problem I also tried to digitize to my own computers HD and nothing because I use a Lacie 500gb external drive in firewire800 and the camera is connected in Firewire 400 but I cant seem to capture, now I have erased the FCP preferences and started from scratch and still cant get it to work!! any help please??
