hdv 24p issues capturing from Canon HV20

Hi All--
I'm editing a short piece from a 3-camera shoot (FCP 6, Quad-Core). The media for one of the cameras was captured and delivered to me on an external drive, the client gave me a Canon HV20 and tapes for the other cameras.
I opened the project, used the easy setup for hdv 1080p24 firewire, and captured some test clips from the A & B-cam tapes. To my surprise when I checked them in the browser, the framerate was 29.97. I tried capturing a clip from the C-cam tape (which had already been captured and was showing up as 23.98 in the browser window), and that clip captured at 23.98.
After searching through various posts, it seems like this is an issue with the HV20. I just emailed the client and learned that the C camera (the already captured media) was a Canon XH-G1, and the other two cameras were HV20's.
So my questions: is it indeed the case that you can shoot, but cannot capture 24p footage from the HV20, but must capture at 29.97 and then convert to 24p? If so what is the best method to convert? My setup is decent, but basic, and I am not looking to spend money right now. I have already done a test using compressor, which looks...okay. The piece's ultimate destination is the web, so maybe I'm just obsessing over this issue too much because it's an unfamiliar problem and a new client. I could also leave the clips in 29.97 and edit with mixed framerates--again, it's going to the web, it wouldn't slow me down as far as I can tell. Are there any issues with that I should be aware of in that scenario? Recommendatons? I am new to the world of HD (or HDV), usually work with DV, and don't encounter mixed framerates.
I love the Cow and almost never post because I can usually find an answer already there. This time I need more clarity. Thanks!

Hi Monica,
Capturing with the HV-20 shouldn't cause any problems for footage shot on an HV-20 or an XH-G1. Its only after you get the footage in the computer that an extra step is necessary. You need to follow these instructions for the HV-20 footage only:

Thanks Joel--I did a test conversion using compressor and it looks okay, except if I step through it frame by frame, and then some of the frames seem a little pixilated (in the foreground mostly, probably where the focus is softer).
I had a recommendation to use After Effects for removing pulldown and converting to 24p...any thoughts on that? My AE is pretty old, 5.5, so I'm not even sure it will support that.
