Converting DVCPRO HD to HDCAM
by Simon Hustings on Sep 12, 2008 at 11:26:09 am

Hi Guys,

Can anyone suggest a tried and tested method for converting DVCPRO HD 1080 50p to HDCAM 1080 50i using software only?
I have a short film premiere coming up in 4 weeks, and the projector in the theatre accepts 1080i connected via composite (Y Cb Cr) from the deck.
The only deck available to me here in Cyprus in an HDCAM deck.
I was thinking of converting my master to ProResHQ first, then to HDCAM. Would that be the best way?
Thanks in advance.
Simon.

How do you propose to lay this back to tape? If you have an AJA Kona board, you can simply play out your DVCPro HD timeline to the HDCAM deck and you're done. There's no reason to convert DVCPro HD to Uncompressed HD just for tape layback.

That's a Component connection, not composite.

Nope, not necessary with a video card and I'm assuming you must have one since you're proposing to lay out to HDCAM.

Walter,

Thanks for your reply.
The system being used to laydown the film to HDCAM tape has a Blackmagic card with SDI output, am I correct to assume that this will work in the same way as a system using a Kona card?
Is there anything I should be aware of when changing the footage from progressive to interlaced? (The projector we will be using on the night only accepts 1080i and the original footage is 1080p)

Many thanks,

Simon
