Image sequence issues?

I am having issues creating a QT, or even several QTs from a rather large batch of sequencial JPG images from a still camera equipped with an intervolometer. The stills only total 850Mb, but there are several thousand images.
None of my normally reliable apps, QT Pro, Combustion, Motion will recognize the files as one sequence. And all apps are crashing so far when I've tried to outsmart them by importing the stills in "relatively" smaller batches. Does anyone have any other ideas for me, I'm about tapped out?
TIA,
David

The only thing I've see that causes a crash is too many items in a folder. I thought OS10 could handle a near infinite number, OS9 used to only be able to handle like 2,000 items.
Rather than move the contents into separate folders, I'd duplicate the folder three times (it's fairly small) and carefully delete 90% of one, 75% of another, 50% of a third and try each one.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: "For crying out loud, read the freakin' manual."
Rename did a batch re-order and rename of 13,000 JPGs in about 30-seconds, which then loaded like a charm as an image sequence into both Combustion and Motion. 13,000 files did choke QT Pro when I tested however, perhaps just too many files. In any case, I now have a great image sequence with all frames in the proper order. "Better Finder Rename" really saved the day...
