FCP CAPTURED FILMS
by Ron Redstone (BigRon) on Aug 29, 2008 at 9:38:19 pm

In FCP Studio 2 when I capture, I'm getting get quicktime files where the Quicktime file name is followed by...... -1-av and -2-av and -3-av etc which, when clicked, brings up a message box that says "The movie could not be opened. This file is not a movie file! There is also the "real" file which only has -av next to it but no number and it can be opened and it works.

What are all these other files... and do I need them and /or how can I not create them in the first place. It didn't use to be this way... and yes the external drive is formatted to MAC OSX JOURNALING OFF.... not sure if that matters in this case.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong ????

Ron

Check under System Settings - see if "Limit Capture/Export File Segment Size" is enabled.

Cause it shouldn't be.

What type of footage are you capturing?

Bill,

Capturing MiniDV but, you're right, I do have it checked and the capture/Export File Segment Size is listed at 2000MB.
So I guess I should uncheck it. I will try that.

Thanks.

Sounds like you're capturing Audio and Video separately. Capture them as one file.

I'm not capturing them separately. I am capturing them together unless my using preview (under clip settings audio) means it is being captured separately. I thought that was just so you can hear the audio as it is being captured...

By any chance do you have your external HD connected by USB?
