using the sony HD700 as external monitor with final cut

hi friends -- I have a question that hopefully someone can help me out with. I am in the process of setting up my studio, and I am needing to get my monitor work flow situated.
I just got the Sony GV-HD700 mini dv deck. I was thinking that it could be used as an external monitor from final cut. In final cut, I have gone to "view > external video> all frames", and I get nothing on the sony. When I plug in my camera (panasonic HVX200) the video does appear. I am using the firewire input.
Is the sony capable of being an external monitor? I certainly hope so, because I want to go out from the sony, and into my JVC monitor. (for true monitoring)
So is my workflow possible i.e. - Final Cut > Sony GV-HD700 > JVC monitor...

Christopher- If you are in DV mode your solution is probably in the 700's menu which also has to be in DV mode. Make sure FCP is seeing the deck by going into 'log and capture.'
HTH.

Jerry -- thanks for your response. I did make sure to put the 700 in "dv mode". And Final Cut does see it when I am in Log and Capture mode. It just gives me nothing on the external monitor end.
I am using Final Cut Pro 4.5, and am upgrading to Final Cut Studio 2. Will this help? If not, I will be returning this deck.
Can anyone give me any recommendations on a mini dv deck to get that will run with Final Cut Studio 2 and a JVC TM-H150CG monitor.
I am going to be utilizing p2 cards in the future, but not all clients will call for that, and I have a ton of old mini dv tapes that I will still need to rely on.
