Working with a 6.0 project in 4.5

An editor gave me a project created in FCP 6, and I can't open in 4.5, HOWEVER, since he sent me all the media, can I get an EDL from him and simply reconnect the media? Has anyone done this? I need to finish the project in 4.5, and have the best resolution for output - since he has sent me the media as Quicktime files, does this then mean the media has been compressed and down-rezed?

[Alison Wolf]" since he has sent me the media as Quicktime files, does this then mean the media has been compressed and down-rezed?"
FCP works natively with Quicktime files that can be as high quality as 10-bit uncompressed HD. So, just because a file is Quicktime it does not mean much. You need to right click on one the files and use "get info" to see what codec the files are.
[Alison Wolf]"can I get an EDL from him and simply reconnect the media?"
It's highly possible, if he logged his material properly, etc.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Question: the codec on the QT media he sent is DV/DVCPRO Intgeger (Big Endian) 720x480. Does this mean they are uncompressed? Same as if I were to redigitize the DV tapes?

To be completely accurate, they are compressed, because DV is a highly compressed tape format. But, no need to recapture at a higher resolution, as these files are exactly what's off the tape just as you would capture using firewire.
