Hello, my hdd on the mac got fried so I had to re-install all of my programs which means all the settings I had in FCP 5 were reset. Anyway I am working with 2 footages of the same just different angles with 2 different cameras, 1 being shot with a HDV camera in HDV mode and another being shot in a normal DV camera in DV mode of course. I'm trying to edit both together with different angles, what would be the best way to capture both to make the video come out right? There seems to be so many different ways of capturing and since both are in different formats I'm not sure which road to go. I tried it myself and I got both captured but when I put the clips into the timeline I have to render before being able to view them in the timeline which I never had to do before. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

You can downconvert the HDV to DV, but if the DV was shot 4x3 you will still have an issue to deal with. Your HDV camera likely has a downconvert feature in the menu, and you would just use FireWire for both.
Of course you'll have to render as your clips don't match and the TL has to be one or the other.
