Building a music library economically
by Patricia Stitson on Aug 22, 2008 at 3:46:51 pm

Any suggestions? I am a boutique style video production company that specializes in "guided" video/photo montages through digital narrative techniques in personal story building. I also do some action sports video and like to utilize electronic music for that purpose. As I am building my business how can I get decent music without spending tons of money on music?

Thank you in advance!

Patty

Check out Digital Juice's StackTraxx line of production music. There is an ad here on the cow that gets you $25 off.

I'm a small one-man operation and I've been exactly where you are. Here's a few that I've found that are good sources. (Even thought they are relatively unknown, they are great) It's always great to find new sources! Please pass them along too.

Patricia

Quite a few libraries will send you discs free of charge and only ask you pay for waht you use. This gives you the ability to drop in a variety of choices, preview em, play em for clients, and then buy them once everyone is happy. Extreme Music is one of them, and they lean toward aggressice, high energy, sporty sounds. we have there complete library on 2 dvd's as Hi Rez MP3.

another one we have been getting samples from is "7-Out" (its some gambling reference as there calling card is a poker chip)

there is a local sound studio that has put all their music on line so you can sample on the interweb. they are called Aaron-Stokes Studios and its their Q service. they have quite a few librarys, and will let you sample free, upload your choices, then you only pay for waht you use.

hope this helps

Patty,

Bob's advice is good. Also check out Fresh Music, they do deals like 5 discs for $99. Use all you want.

Also, sounddogs.com has a TON of stuff, and most of it is pretty cheap. Great SFX too, I use them every week.

Have a wonderful day.

recently found this

stockmusic.net

royalty free, lots of choices and fairly user friendly searching.
I think most cuts are $30 and you get to use them (almost) however you choose.

Also, as mentioned above, Digital Juice has some great options too.
I have several Staxx Trakks. this library will provide you with the whole cut OR allows you to customize music by separating each track out. example "I like this music except for that weird voice thang". You can take out the voice thang.

Their libraries are a slightly generic and sound like many other libraries.
But they are very affordable and often have great sales and "mix and match" promotions.

Here's one that's often overlooked. I've used them in the past.
