Working with AVID content

Our editor uses AVID for our network shows and our new media editor used Final Cut. Is there any way to get around having to capture the tapes twice.
The AVID capture happens first, so I'd be curious if there's a way to bring AVID capture into FCP. Not as concerned about bins and sequences at the moment.

Sure. Download the Avid Quicktime codecs from the Avid site. Hmmm...but Avid captures either as OMFI or MXF...so that might not work. I don't think that those formats will be recognized by FCP.
Mixing NLEs is never easy...especially when you need to share the media captured in one with the other.

Chip,
I'm currently working on an application that does just this.
If you export a bin as QT refs and place an .ALE next to it, my app can insert the TC and Reelinfo into the QT's, so if you have Avid codecs installed on your FCP set, you're ready to rock and roll.
If you want self contained movies from that, that's possible too. Even transcodes, but that will take time. Depends on your need.
Mail me direct if you want more info.
