Exporting audio levels to OMFs?
by Erin Casper on Aug 15, 2008 at 9:15:53 pm

Does Final Cut export rubberbanding information to OMF files?

I'm sending work to ProTools, and would like to know that my audio work (level keyframes, pans, etc.) will stay intact.

I am working on FCP v. 5.1.4.

Thanks!

It does, but the audio designers I work with do not bring that information in with the projects. They start from scratch.

Thanks for the quick reply! I thought it did, too. Does it do it by default or is there a Preference I need to set? I've exported some OMFs to my re-recording mixer, and he says the info is NOT coming over. He's pretty experienced with his side of the equation and, frankly, his set-up (software, hardware) is much more professional than where I'm coming from. I'm inclined to think I'm doing something wrong or there's something I need to set in FCP or in a sequence preset. Can anybody shed some light on this?

In FCP 6 there are check boxes when you do the File > Export > OMF on whether to include levels or not. Been so long since I used FCP 5.1 I have no idea.

Actually, this feature was new to 6.0.

You'll need Automatic Duck to have the info carry over in 5.1.

Excellent. Thank you, Bill! I'll look into adding this to our workflow.
