Fiber FX Crashes Using Multithreading.
by Mark Crenshaw on Aug 19, 2009 at 2:24:46 pm

LW 9.6, HP XW8400 Dual quad-core, 4 gig RAM.

I have been given a series of animations to render. They all use Fiber FX for generating grass. When I first received them, I was unable to render any of them without crashing on the first frame. After disabling Fiber FX, they render fine. Then I tried reactivating Fiber FX but going to a single thread and they render, but very slowly.

I have never used Fiber FX so I am unaware of any "gotchas" that might exist. Is there a known issue or a setting the author might have overlooked that I can check? He is using ray traced shadows in all scenes. Is this an issue?

Peace,
Mark

Fiber FX is still pretty flaky, but it can be used. Can you send me the scene file, all I need is the object thart the fiber FX are on, and the scene file. I should be able to trouble shoot it fairly quickly.
