working with big files on a scene
by David Barski on May 2, 2009 at 1:07:30 pm

Hi,
I'm working a scene with a lot of objects that are really heavy (complex).
is there any way to work on "low resolution" or to reduce the size of the scene? or the poligons...and then when I finally got the scene the way I want to replace with the big files?

is really hard to visualice the preview (takes a lot of time to visualice every time I want to make any change on the layout.

thanks in advance,

David

you can model lower resolution "proxy" objects, and in layout use the replace with object command. You can use the low res versions to set up the scene, and then replace them again with the high res versions for the final render. :)

Another way to approach this is to have entire subdirectories that are filled with the lowrez proxy objects. Then by simply renaming the the subdirectories you can switch between high-and low-rez.

However, this makes it complicated to mix and match BOTH hi and low rez.

Take a look at UNSEEN BY CAMERA (can be laborious), or switching objects on and off (ACTIVATION) in the Scene Editor.

The New Scene Editor should enable you to do these kinds of operations en masse.
