Render farm for single frames?

Hi. I mostly render single frames as reference for illustrators to draw backgrounds. However, some of these frames take a long time to render. Is it possible to set up a render farm to only render single frames? I think this is probably not possible, but thought I'd ask anyway. Don't render farms usually work on one frame per processor? Is it possible for multiple processors to render one frame? I am using Lightwave 9.2 on intel Mac Pro with OS X 10.5.2. Thanks for your help.

I think the latter part of your statement is true.

Don't think multiple cpu-s can work on a single frame.
