Alpha Trouble/Question(s)
by Matthew Roddy on Jan 4, 2008 at 8:21:30 pm

I'm trying to do a couple things with bringing alpha channels into Lightwave 8.
First, I can't seem to get LW to recognize the Alpha Chnl of a 32bit TGA, PSD or PNG. Is my only option to make a black & white mask and use that in the Transparancy channel? When I do this, I am getting a slight white glow. I'm guessing the solution to that is to somehow choke the mask, but I'd rather just have one image in the Color channel and have that recognize the alpha.
Does LW9 handle alpha channels the way I'm asking, or do you still need two images: one for the Color and one for the Transparency?

Next, and directly related, I'm shooting some folk on a green screen. I can easily key that away and generate a 32bit MOV, using Ultra2 or After Effects (or Vegas, or whatever), but will LW recognize the embedded alpha, or will I have to generate a mask for that as well? And same question for LW9 (I'm trying to get a grasp on if I really need to spend the $$$s for the upgrade, when what I already have is much better than I am).

Thanks for the help!
