Abstract Multiplying
by Rusherific on Apr 21, 2006 at 6:44:23 am

I have a buddy into Cinema 4D and honestly I'm a little jealous of the new MoGraph module http://maxon.net/ they're coming out with. He showed me and I really couldn't say anything. Is there a plugin for lightwave that does this kind of stuff, or even methods out of the box for it? I mean I know there are fancy cloning tools and you can do some things with object linked particle fx but anything as dynamic as whats going on here? Honestly some of those shots are enough to make me think about taking up Cinema 4D, if it weren't so . . . cinema 4D. Please tell me there are things like this for Lightwave!

Thanks, Devin

NewTek attempted something like this...simplifying the creation of motion graphics through the use of pre-made, editable templates...with ToasterVision, a LW plugin originally designed to work with the Video Toaster (NT).

However, the plugin never did get the bugs worked out and make it to the mainstream, and no extensive template libraries were developed (as far as I know).

There's also been some proprietary software developed. Animusic Studios has a module they call "MIDIMotion" that allows objects and particles to be controlled by MIDI music. They use it for their animated music videos. (This software works with 3DS Max, not LightWave).

Maybe now that Maxon and others have raised the bar, NewTek will do something to catch up in 9.5...

Doug Graham

Update:

NewTek has announced the upcoming release of something called "3D Arsenal" which may do some of what you want. It's not clear that it'll have particle effects like the Cinema4D plugin, but it does have templates and tools and integration with NLE programs to make the creation of 3D graphics for video much easier.
