To wave or not to wave
by Frank M on Sep 23, 2005 at 8:49:45 pm

I used Lightwave years ago during version 5.5 but have not used it since. I want to get back into 3D and was wondering if the latest Lightwave is so different that I may as well look into learning Maya or some other application.
My usage would be Logos, broadcast design and products. I doubt I will be doing much character work or dinosaurs.

I used 5.5 for years before I made an upgrade to 7.5. I jumped right in with no problems. In fact, everything was so much more easier. Plus, Lightwave has the largest support community out there. I looked into other packages before I upgraded and for the money, ease of use, capabilities right out of the box and support, nobody else comes close.

There are lots of minor differences, and LOTS of new features.

However, dinosaurs like you (and me) can continue to use the current LW versions in much the same way as we used 5.5. Then, we can learn the new features and the new workflow enhancements at our own geezer-like pace.

NewTek keeps bringin' 'em out faster than I can learn 'em!

I think you can jump in and get going faster, even from 5.5 to 8.3 (current version).
You might even find a better workflow than previous. It'll feel like home.
