is it not fully integrated into Motion 4.0? I know it at least partially is, I'm asking the question in the Motion forums too. Motion 4 even seems to come with Livefonts, if the online manual is anything to go by

On the one hand I heard that you can't do the "per character" manipulations with Live Fonts in Motion like you can/could in Live Type, but another poster says that the "ability to manipulate text down to the character level" behavior is included in the new Motion build. I guess we will just have to wait and see if all the functionality has truly been passed to the new Motion app or not. (A good project for Sjon??) The good news is, the FCP3 install leaves the existing Live Type install untouched on your computer, it just kills any further integration with FCP.

By "it just kills any further integration with FCP," do you mean that you can no longer roundtrip, or that there will be no further enhancements to LiveType? I will be ordering FCP3 next week and will play with it, especially Motion, to see if all the functionality of LiveType is available.

That bites. I love Live Type and how easy it is for quick projects. With there being no "integration" or "round tripping", would this just force you to take the LT file and drag and drop it into FCS3? Or would you actually have to export a QT file? Or something else?
Man, I really did dig Live Type. :/

I'm afraid both of those statements are true.
No more roundtripping and no more Live Type development.
You'll have to tell us how your experimenting goes.
I'm holding off on the upgrade as it seems to kill most 3rd party plug-in support as well.

Re: Live Type is Dead (NOT YET) by Sjon Ueckert on Jul 27, 2009 at 4:34:02 pm
Okay, just did a little research - roundtripping will still be available, it's just that there is no more development for LT and it will not be included in any versions from Final Cit Studio 3 upwards. If you own LiveType, you will be able to use it as before, if you don't you won't be able to buy a copy from Apple. So, for those of you that have LT, nothing has changed (nor will it).

I too, use Live Type a lot, and like it for it simplicity and power.
Also, I have years of shows that have LT elements in them, and my clients frequently revise older programs. If I open those projects in FCS3 how will the LT be handled? Will I have the text information to rebuild them in Motion, or will I just have a Missing Media and have to figure out what was there?
I am hoping that the previous note about loading LT from FCS2 is correct.
Livetype dead - How can I learn to transition to motion? by Chris Dillingham on Nov 16, 2009 at 6:44:51 pm
I'm addicted to Livetype and must say that I'm pretty comfortable using it. While I've tinkered with Motion, I have not been able to get to the same level of proficiency there.
Can anyone recommend a good resource (video tutorial, article, blog post, etc?) to jumpstart my learning curve - on how to use Motion to replicate the same effects I can do in Livetype?
