Help! Advice needed please!

Hey everyone,
Im a newcomer to livetype and I have a question that I'm sure someone will be able to help me with!
I have a basic 20seconds of simple text that I want to export without a background so that I can put it into final cut to use over the top of a pre-made background.
Trouble is that whenever i attempt to export the text (black text on white background) I get a blank layer over the top of the text.
I choose NOT to render background.. but there must be alpha channel settings or something that im not doing right..
Could anyone advise me on this?
