LiveType now requires rendering?

Final Cut Pro HD 4.1.2

I used to be able to create non-animated LiveType text files and save them to my hardrive. I did not render them. Then I would import them into Final Cut with no problems.

All of a sudden, I have to render even the simplest LiveType text file. If I don't render, Final Cut crashes.

Any ideas?
